Make-up Favourites 2013

Since we are all intent on reviewing the previous year in all areas of our lives, it seemed obvious to review the products that really impressed me in the year 2013.

Where to start, well, blogs, YouTube and Instagram came in handy to look back on the products that featured during my beauty year.

Here are the favourites of 2013;

Foundations, Tints, Bb creams & Concealers -

Actually easier than I thought, I have several bases of varying degrees of finish, coverage and lasting time.
The main criteria for making the edit was simple, did it make my skin look flawless and did I remember it as more than just a skin base.

1. L'Oreal Nude Magique
2. Bourjois Healthy Mix
3. Ysl Le Teint Touche Eclat
4. Laura Mercier Silk Creme

5. Jouer Matte Moisture Tint

6. Garnier BB Cream
7. Dior Nude BB Cream

The concealers were difficult to edit, I had tried so many and using several in rotation gave me plenty of options but it really was the results at the end of the day that gave me just two for the final edit, did they help disguise dark circles and blemishes.

1. Rimmel Wake Me Up
2. Nars Radiant Cream

This was an easy choice, Hourglass Ambient Powder in Dim Light was my only choice. This powder gives a subtle matte finish to the face, there is subtle lightness and glow without any shimmer, it looks as though the face has been lit.  It doesn't cake on the skin, there is no emphasis of fine lines. Although a high end product, this rarely diminishes even with daily use, worth the investment.

I am slightly wary of bronzer especially when using it for contouring. I use bronzer to warm my face and of course the summer is an ideal time to add a little glow to the face. The two bronzers in my edit were there for the softness and subtlety of application.

1. Nars Laguna
2. Chanel Les Beiges No.4.

My weakness, eye palettes, pretty, so many choices and they fill the gap of my inability to paint, so they are my creative palettes.

1. Sleek Palettes
2. Urban Decay
3. Mac

After many years of loving a coral shade of blusher I found it just didn't suit me any longer, my skin tone had changed. Pink, yes finally, I was a convert to (grandma pink cheeks), flattering, warming and lot's and lot's of choice.
My final edit included;
*Nars - awesome pigment
*Benefit Dandelion Face Powder - flattering
*Dior Bikini Blush - beautiful shade
*Daniel Sandler Watercolour - innovative, great colour, long lasting.

I like to think I am cautious when it comes to highlighter, a sheen is good but glowing like fluorescent light is not the most attractive look.
I have found two products, that for me work well;
*The Balm Company - Mary Lou Manizer
*Beauty Uk - Halo blusher - it works so well as a highlighter, for me it's too strong to use over the cheek area as a blush.

The problems I've had with eyeshadow pots!
Let's not go there, as I have three brands that have soothed my frustrations.

*Chanel, lovely packaging as you would expect, I know the looks don't impact on the results but pretty things make me smile. Love the colour of this, it applies easier using fingers, this way the product is pressed onto the eyelid.
*Bourjois 24hr eyeshadow - wonderful colour, no creasing, strong pigment.
*Stila Smudge Pot, this is supposed to be an eyeliner, too dry for that in my opinion but as an eyeshadow it is superb. I adore the colour, the product lasts all day and again fingers apply it easily onto the eyelids and give a smooth finish.

All about the eyes, I love making more of my eyes and even though I am a red lipped girl - there is nothing better than a smokey eye.
For me there was only one eyeliner that really gave me the look I wanted. Newly launched in September, Charlotte Tilbury presented us with awesome skin care and a stunning colour range.
*Rock 'N' Kohl eye pencil - soft, easily applied, great to smudge for a truly smokey look.

As for mascara,

*Rimmel - Scandaleyes Flex, huge wand, applied lot's of product, gives length, curl and volume, long wearing and even though not waterproof it stays put.
*Benefit They're Real, this starred as a love of a sample and then grew into a purchase. Awesome wand that connects with each lash, length, curl and volume.

Loving red lip products makes it difficult to ever choose favourites, the colour you love but the texture may not suit, the texture is great but the pigment isn't strong, so I had to work hard on my lip gloss edit.

*Rimmel Apocalips, stunning colours, strong pigments, lovely texture - superb product.
*Korres Lip Butter, moisturising texture, lovely colour.
*Dior Extreme, the most beautiful colour, subtle, long lasting.
*Hourglass Lip Tint, dried after a couple of minutes, last all day, stunning colours, gorgeous packaging.

Let's get down to it, I love lipsticks, I love red lipsticks. I have worn lipstick since I was fifteen, so I've seen a few lipsticks.
What made my edit?

*Rimmel, produced some of the best lipsticks last year, the matte and satin finish lipsticks were superb and what a fantastic choice of reds.
*Mac, Ruby Woo, that's all I can say - Love!
*Chanel, superb choice of colours, choice of finishes, beautiful packaging.

So that's the beauty edit, so many products, so little time!
